The rain was out, the sliding subsided in the distance amidst the showers and the smell of asphalt. Two-stepping as the rain drummed the streets. Godzilla came out to its stomping grounds on the islands of Trindiad and Tobago as it sailed by like a shark with nothing to prove all were in awe. A three point and hard parked, we had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Debi-Ann and her Race ready Nissan Skyline R34P3R.
After a lot of Drift action by the TTDA championed by Ian Cox, their first Drift Motion qualifier event we had the chance to sit with Debi-Ann for a quick but swift interview.
City Stance: How did you get into Japanese cars?
Debi-Ann: Well I have all boys in my family so naturally I was into cars and the whole scope.
City Stance: A skyline as a first car? And is this your career?
Debi-Ann: My first car was a Nissan tsuru b13 fwd. And by career I am a primary school teacher, which means I never have to buy lunch and I have all summer to work on my car! And the kids love it.!
City Stance: When and where did you get your hands on the skyline.
D-A: Well, after eight years of saving I finally had the sauce together and started the hunt. It was quite difficult as no one wanted to sell them with the news on not allowing certain vehicles in after a certain year. It was becoming more challenging but luckily a guy directed me to a man on the island of Tobago who had one. After hearing my story and that I was a girl into imports he flew me over on his dollar. On the way to the 3-4 we had already made the deal without me even seeing the car. The previous owner had purchased it and sent it to paint and had not even seen it either. When the paint booth opened, I saw it the owner at the time was blown away. It stood in a chameleon color, fitted with an rb26dett, and a second motor for race-car build. He stuck to his word on selling the car as I didn’t travel over to see it. As I had come to buy.
C/S: So good things come to those who wait!?
DA: Clearly so! I even had a lot of parts pre- bought for this model car hood wing, rims LEDs, tails, etc, I had a whole aftermarket speed shop at home.
C/S :So is it stick?
DA:Is there something else it came in?
CS:And you were self thought to drive stick? Very groovy to find a lady who wants to drive stick.
DA: House full of boys!
C/S: What are your intentions with this car and the second engine? The car seems pretty clean as is.
DA: Well I have intentions of drifting it but in a very controlled safe environment. I think I’m doing pretty well and my bf drifts also.
C/S: So a lot of people I’m sure ask you if it’s his car or his passion. What do you think of those assumptions Debi? Also, how did the name R34P3R come about?
DA: Reaper, r34p3r, giving life to the dead because it was all stock. Yes, I get a lot of folks asking if it’s his car but I’m genuinely into this sport.
C/S: Hope we see you on the tracks in the future and congrats with the whole build keep up the great work.
